Giving your social media accounts to untrained staff is like giving fireworks to a three-year-old.
It’s not going to end well.
At best, you get lacklustre results, at worst – it’s going to blow up in your face!
But I can understand why you do because so did my boss.

- 59% of people access social media every day or most days
- Over 30% of millennials won’t go to a restaurant if they are not utilising their social media
- 89% will make travel plans based on what their peers have posted
- 80% of people will go online and read 6-12 reviews before making a purchasing decision
- 64% of consumers are more likely to trust a brand who interacts positively on social media
And don’t go thinking it’s just the young folk. 86% in the 40-49 age bracket are on the socials, 66% of people aged 50-64, and even 47% in 65+!
And even when they’re consuming another media, they’re still on it.
Over 85% use another device when they’re watching TV, whether it’s social media, messaging, news or games. Yes – dual screening is all the rage, and you know what will take their attention. What’s nearest to their face, rather than what turns into white noise in the background.

What I find the most interesting, is that less than 50% of SME are using social media platforms to market their business.
And, that figure has dropped.
It doesn’t quite add up, does it?
When you look at the consumer figures, it’s easy to say that there is no way to go but digital.
And don’t forget the other telling figure – traditional media has been on a steep decline since 2011, to the point where digital consumption has now taken over.
But I also appreciate why you haven’t gone there yet.
